Not from the subject matter (which is disturbing but a topic I have read about extensively), but from the tone of the writing. While I was aware of the brutal conditions (lack of education, demoralization, rape, beatings, sex trafficking, mutilations, and murder) of women and young girls going on in parts of Africa, Asia and the Middle East, I admit I did not fully realize the immense enormity of it.I found this book to be quite powerful. It sucks to be a woman basically anywhere. And womens health worldwide seems to be an afterthought.
But I don't.
So, most of my review will focus on that. It is. I sure as hell hope we can come up with something better than a fraudulent guy who gets press and steals money from donations. This book opened my eyes and my heart to things I didn't know we're happening. In the twentieth century, it was the battle against totalitarianism. The abuse and strength of women in developing and third world countries is told through the stories of individual women the authors have met.
Sexual slavery and trafficking, genital mutilations, and maternal death and health disasters associated with childbirth are the main focus. I would love an updated version. Clearly, this person has no idea what these women and girls go through. Micro-credit? from Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School, where she was a member of its Advisory Council.
At first when reading this book I found the first few cases hard to believe but as time went on I realized that it was in fact real. A great book showing the different human rights violations and oppressions women face world wide.

Many of the times the book was difficult to read due to the content and I was thinking of stopping until the authors reassured me that such a situation is not hopeless or impossible to change. If nothing else, this book is a wonderful resource for information and direction on these issues, but it really is both a storybook and a guidebook.Seeing the amount of praise given this book by progressives and conservatives alike, it seems like smug and self-righteous really sells. Nope. I left the bedroom and joined my boyfriend in the living room, where he was seated on the couch. Many of these victims are fighting for their rights and freedom. Some books change you – and this is one of those books.Okay….so this is one of the top five book I have ever read in my life. I would rather have people read this book than have no information on these topics at all. I first read about the Nordic Model in this book. But soon the book and the uncomfortable feeling became worse, and I started to be able to name the source of the ickiness and my overall discomfort with the book: Ethnocentrism.

With each painful contraction, she would give the string a yank so that the man could share the burden. GoodReads tells me this, but I would have remembered regardless. It is. Well, maybe you do.
