I am looking forward to the final book in the series.Just not as good as the Revolutionary War series. Among the summaries and analysis available for Depending on the study guide provider (SparkNotes, Shmoop, etc.
"Grant Comes East", as a companion to "Gettysburg", reminds the reader that history is compromised of the stories of imperfect men and women. Historical figures remain true to who they were in real history, but there are different battles & different results from actual history.Maybe it is because I hold Grant is such high esteem - He was clearly one of the greatest American Generals - but I could not put it down. After he was elected Speaker, he disrupted the status quo by moving power out of Washington and back to the American people. Gingerich and Forstchen continue their insightful application of the characters to the fictional shift in direction of the American Civil War. As with all alternate history you have to question whether or not the characters would have made the decisions that the author assumes; but a very entertaining read from a very tumultuous point in our history.
They are all the same so it gets monotonous. It was a pleasant surprise. Come and confront Lee and protect the panicked city of Washington D.C. or does he? It was published in 2004 and is the sequel to Gettysburg: A Novel of the Civil War. The authors do a good job explaining why it takes so long for things to get going, but it does not make for interesting reading. But never fear, readers are here! Aim, Fire lots of casualties and death...every single time. Book 2 in an excellent trilogy about what could have been.Very good story.
Highly recommend.Newt Gingrich is well-known as the architect of the “Contract with America” that led the Republican Party to victory in 1994 by capturing the majority in the U.S. House of Representatives for the first time in forty years. The good thing is the ink is of high enough quality to not have to worry about the lack of a clean place to place your thumbs.Part 2 of the trilogy. We meet Grant, and we follow Grant as he tries to figure out Lee.
It can be read on it’s own but you will benefit greatly by reading this series in order. In ‘Gettysburg’, Lee comments that the Army oIn all fairness I have to start this review with a spoiler alert.
Ulysses S. Grant to save the day. Having read approximately half, I am disillusioned (I knew that Grant came East after Shiloh, Tnn, to become supreme commander, and this had nothing to do with that.

I do not agree with their conclusion that the War would actually have ended sooner with a Confederate victory in Southern Pennsylvania.Even if you are not interested in Civil War stories this series of three books will give you a clear sense of what it was like to live in that time period.
It captures the personalities of the political and military leaders behind this bloodiest of American wars, and paints them with greater nuance and context, as well as opening to the reader the fact that the catalysts for the war were not so black and white as we like to think now.As with "Gettysburg", Gingrich and Forstchen have produced a compelling work of historical fiction that brings these battles to life for the reader.
He is learning that the North simply has more of everything and that he must destroy the Northern Armies and Lincoln's will to fight him. He enlightens Lee to the political realities of the world the Confederate President Davis refuses to believe. Meanwhile, General Dan Sickles will take over command of the badly beaten Army of the Potomac. Another real exciting book that looks at what might have happened after the Battle of Gettysburg.
A Confederate victory, however, would not necessarily mean that the Southern cause has gained its final triumph and a lasting peace. Volume 2 of the Civil War series continues with Lee moving his troops from Gettysburg to Baltimore. It was at a high cost, but Lee now figures that Grant must move and come to him. In this book, at attack on Washington D.C. fails, forcing Lee to change plans. OK – my first comment on this book is how well the authors have managed the departure from ‘our’ timeline and the skill with which they use the best rules of counterfactual history to drive the plot. I am not much for fiction and would never have bought this.
