However Lawers had passed from the MacMillans by 1370 and was for a long time held by the Clan Campbell. Through the marriage of a chieftain with the heiress of the chief of the MacNeils, they became the possessors of the Castle Sweyn. • Lawers, eight miles east of Killin, and standing under the mountain Ben Lawers, on the north side of Loch Tay, Perthshire, was probably the seat of the chief of Clan MacMillan who sheltered Robert the Bruce during the Wars of Scottish Independence. This cross is recognised as one of the finest surviving examples of Celtic art in Scotland, and shows a chief of the MacMillans hunting deer. The twelfth Chief of the clan Alexander of Knap left two very interesting and enduring Macmillan memorials, the round tower near to Castle Sween known as Macmillan's tower and a remarkable Celtic cross in the churchyard of Kilmore, which is also the Clans burial ground. It has seen many lords over the years.
