They did continue the character of Mary Lou for the next film, but it basically ignores everything from this film outside of how she died, and the film is more of a tongue-in-cheek parody of the series so far and horror films in general. Jess's death is deemed a suicide caused by her despair over her recent discovery that she was pregnant. It was all very sad. Lisa Schrage does a very fun, light hearted take on the killer ex-Prom Queen Mary Lou. So I looked up Brock Simpson's roles in all four films in this series, and each is a different character, and at least two of them die during their respective movie, I couldn't see anything about him dying in the third film so I assume that he lived. She obviously put a lot into this role, as her performances are polar opposites, and her extroverted mannerisms as the "possessed" Vicki Carpenter are identical as Mary Lou's.
