There are three reasons for this:I love Extraordinary, Ordinary People: A Memoir of Family, by Condoleeza Rice, because it speaks to me. Though throughout much her of childhood, Condoleezza Rice’s parents were able to insulate her from the most obscene of Birmingham’s racism. – Parent who attended An Extra•Ordinary Celebration Many thanks for tickets and for organizing the amazing concert. She was the youngest provost in Stanford history. I have always admired Condolezza Rice from afar. Think back to the best teacher(s) or mentor(s) you ever … I don't agree with many of her political viewpoints, but I respect and admire her immensely.
It is also exceedingly well titled. Her achievements run the gamut from helping to oversee the collapse of communism in Europe and the decline of the Soviet Union, to working to protect the country in the aftermath of 9-11, to becoming only the second woman - and the first black woman ever -- to serve as Secretary of State. It's written wonderfully as she gives you insight to her childhood and her family dynamic. The model takes into account factors including the age of a rating, whether the ratings are from verified purchasers, and factors that establish reviewer trustworthiness.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. I am a big admirer of this lady and really enjoyed her story and perspective, especially on race. I love Extraordinary, Ordinary People: A Memoir of Family, by Condoleeza Rice, because it speaks to me. She currently teaches at Stanford University. Her family provided her with a framework that really allowed her to accomplish anything she set her mind to doing.I had the opportunity to see Ms. Rice speak during the author's breakfast at last year's Book Expo America (May 2010) in New York City. Her achievements run the gamut from helping to oversee the collapse of communism in Europe and the decline of the Soviet Union, to working to protect the country in the aftermath of 9-11, to becoming only the second woman - and the first black woman ever -- to serve as Secretary of StatCondoleezza Rice has excelled as a diplomat, political scientist, and concert pianist. Although I do not agree with her politically, I have a ton of respect for Dr. Rice. Tough Love: My Story of the Things Worth Fighting For People who change the world aren't always who you expect. This book confirms that it was more than an act, she actually appears to be very similar in her real personality. My parents grew up in the South, but my family has none of the experiences that most people think of when they think of the southern living in the 50s. Steady, stable, good background, avoided many of the pitfalls people fall into during their youth. I was interested in her life, but ended up fascinated by it.While not elegantly written, Ms. Rice's memoir is compelling, direct, and almost charming. Her extraordinary parents made an immense effort to provide her with an ordinary life by making considerable sacrifices to better her chances of success. The book is an homage to her parents who were educated themselves andI expected to like this book a lot, but it just rubbed me wrong. One … I started reading this book with a negative political and personal bias, but soon became absorbed with this extraordinary family story written by former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. Both are great features, and I wish more booksThis book was written for a young audience, and therefore incorporated several things that I like. I think we all could learn a lesson from the Rice family when it comes to being good citizens.
